Tri-City Healthcare District Awards Health Grants

The Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors awarded grants totaling $300,000 to 22 non-profit community agencies at its May 29, 2008 Board meeting.

"We congratulate our community partners and extend our commitment to continue working with them in our common mission to care for community residents," Larry Schallock, President of the Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors said at the grant awards presentation. "We are proud to be able to help support these agencies that play such vital roles in the strength of our community," added David Tweedy, Board Secretary and Chair of the Mission and Community Outreach Committee.

Each year, funds are allocated by the Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors to be used in a competitive grant process for non-profit agencies that provide needed health programs for residents of Carlsbad, Vista and Oceanside. Grant applications are evaluated by a volunteer committee of district residents.

This year, the Tri-City Healthcare District Board of Directors' Mission and Community Outreach Committee reviewed 35 proposals requesting $1,018,949 and recommended to the Board that 22 organizations be funded for a total of $300,000. The grants were awarded in two categories: (1) individual organizations, totaling $200,000 and (2) collaborative projects, with at least three partner organizations, totaling $100,000.
