North County hospital earns highest honor for organ, eye and tissue outreach efforts
OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Tri-City Medical Center has received platinum level recognition, the highest honor, from the national Hospital Organ Donation Campaign for its efforts driving organ, eye and tissue donation and registration.
The award-winning hospital partners with Lifesharing, a Donate Life organization, to educate and register new donors to help reduce the organ shortage crisis. California’s waiting list is the longest in the U.S. with more than 22,000 men, women and children waiting for an organ transplant. On average, three people die waiting each day in California. A single donor can save up to eight lives.
“We are proud of our record encouraging the community to register for organ donation,” said Sharon Schultz, Chief Executive Nurse of Tri-City Medical Center. “Our physicians, nurses and staff understand that organ donation saves lives, and they work diligently to raise awareness and encourage patients to register to help meet California’s dire need.”
