April 10, 2012 was a landmark day at Tri-City Medical Center. Construction crews lifted 14 concrete panels into place for a three-story, 57,000-square-foot medical office building on the Oceanside campus.
The panels, which make up the walls of the building, were poured at the construction site on March 30 and April 2. It took about a week for the panels to cure (dry) enough to be lifted and set into place. The largest of the panels weighs as much as 115 tons.
The first panel was moved into place at 7 a.m. Most of the east, south and west walls would be up before the end of the day. The remaining east and all north walls (a total of 10 additional panels) will be poured in early May and then hoisted shortly thereafter.
It is the first major construction project on the campus in several decades.
